Gardaí are investigating after a man was found fatally stabbed in Dublin city this afternoon.
The 51-year-old man was found at his home on Ormond Square at about 2.30pm this afternoon.
It is believed he had been stabbed in the neck and back.
The man was found in the hall after a neighbour tried to get into the house, noticing that the door was ajar.
He was treated at the scene by the emergency services, but he was pronounced dead at 3pm.
The man had lived in the area for more than ten years.
The scene was preserved and State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy carried out a preliminary examination.
The man's body has been taken to the City Morgue in Marino for a post mortem.

It is the second fatal stabbing in the city in the last 24 hours.
