Five men have been given suspended prison sentences at a sitting of Longford District Court, arising from a disturbance at a Traveller family wake in the town.
The five were convicted on public order offences, fined €750 each and each had a one-month prison sentence imposed upon them.
The sentences were later suspended on condition that the five, who had returned to Ireland to attend a funeral, leave the country and not return for a 12-month period.
Meanwhile, the gardaí have stood down an armed garda operation from earlier in the afternoon during a funeral in the town.
No disturbances were reported before, during or after the funeral and gardaí are monitoring events for the rest of the evening.
