A man has appeared before Trim District Court charged with the murder of his wife at an apartment in Navan last month.

Marius Daniel Sarzynski, 36, made no comment during the brief hearing.

Detective Sgt Tom Flynn told the court he arrested Mr Sarzynski on Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and brought him to Navan Garda Station.

He later charged the Polish native with the murder of his wife Aleksandra Sarynska.

Ms Sarynska's body was found on 30 August at an apartment in Bective House in Beaufort Place, Navan, Co Meath.

Solicitor for the defendant Chris Horrigan asked that his client be allowed keep his medication with him.

Judge David Clyne remanded Mr Sarzynski in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.

He also granted Mr Sarzynski free legal aid.
