Minister of State Kathleen Lynch has been admitted to hospital after taking ill while visiting Letterkenny General Hospital.
Labour Senator Jimmy Harte, who was accompanying the minister, said that Ms Lynch became unwell at around noon.
He said she was concluding her visit when she felt ill and was admitted to hospital.
A Labour Party spokesman said doctors were treating Ms Lynch for the suspected recurrence of septicaemia, which she was previously treated for in Cork last year.
The minister was transferred by air ambulance from Letterkenny Hospital to Cork University Hospital for further treatment and tests.
Her condition has been described as "comfortable."
