Businessman Kevin McGeever has been remanded in custody for two weeks after failing to come up with money for bail.
The 68-year-old with an address at Nirvana, Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co Galway, appeared before Harristown District Court in Co Roscommon.
He had been remanded in custody with consent to bail when he appeared before Strokestown District Court on Wednesday on two charges of wasting garda time.
Bail was set on Wednesday at his own bond of €2,500 and independent surety of €10,000, with a minimum of €3,000 of that to be cash.
Defence solicitor Joan Devine told Judge Geoffrey Browne that her client was not in a position to come up with that amount of money.
Judge Browne remanded Mr McGeever in custody with consent to bail to appear before Harristown District Court on Friday, 9 August.
The former millionaire developer is charged with wasting garda time on dates between 29 January and 28 February this year.
The charges follow a garda investigation that was launched in January after Mr McGeever was found on a roadside in Co Leitrim.
He had been reported missing in May 2012 and was not seen until January this year when he was found by a passerby.
