An appeal for witnesses has been issued in Drogheda, Co Louth after a man was found with multiple injuries.

The man in his 40s was discovered lying on a green near Sandyford Terrace, Drogheda by a member of the public at 8.30am.

He is understood to have suffered multiple fractures.

The man was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he is said to be in a serious condition.

Gardaí said it is unclear if the man was assaulted where he was found or if the assault occurred somewhere else and he was then brought to the open area.

The area has been cordoned off and technical examinations are taking place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious in the Sandyford Terrace area between 4am and 8am to contact them.
