Two men have appeared at the District Court in Ennis charged in connection with the investigation into the fatal stabbing of a Polish man in the town yesterday.

Michael Maughan, 39 of Stone Court, Ennis was charged with the murder of Piotr Nowakowski at Sandfield Mews early yesterday morning.

The court heard he made no reply when charged earlier today.

His 21-year-old brother Darren Maughan was charged with assault causing harm to Declan O'Dea at Sandfield Mews yesterday.

Mr O'Dea was found lying injured on the footpath outside the apartment in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Both accused men were remanded in custody to appear in court in Ennis on Friday.

A third man arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge this afternoon.
