An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a 20-year-old man was shot in Cork.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm in the Fairhill area of Cork City and the man was taken to Cork University Hospital.

The victim will have surgery later today and is expected to make a full recovery.

The scene is preserved by pending a forensic and technical examination which is expected to be carried out this morning.
