Four motorcyclists have died in separate accidents on both sides of the border over the weekend.

A man in his 20s died in Co Kerry when his motorcycle collided with a car on the main Tralee to Abbeydorney road at about 6.30pm.

The man died at the scene while the woman driving the car was uninjured. 

Gardaí in Tralee are appealing for witnesses to contact them and have reopened the road after a forensic examination.

In Co Westmeath, a 20-year-old man died after his motorbike hit a ditch during the annual Walderstown Road Races near Athlone at around 1.20pm.

The man, understood to be from the Hillsborough area of Co Down, was airlifed to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he was pronounced dead at 5.30pm.

In Co Down, another motorcyclist died in a collision with a car. 

Richard Carson, 40, from the Newtownards area, was killed in the accident on the Ballysallagh Road in Crawfordsburn at around 3pm.

The woman driver of the car was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

The accident came a day after a 39-year-old man was killed after a road crash near Larne in Co Antrim on Saturday morning. 

He was riding a Suzuki bike when he collided with a car at Kilwaughter, around 5km outside the town.
