Government grants awarded to hundreds of childcare facilitiesThursday 04 July 2013 16.47
Childcare services around the country are to receive grants worth €2.75m.
Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald made the announcement as part of a capital funding scheme announced in 2012.
671 applicants have been awarded funding, subject to contract.
The grants will pay for the purchase of equipment and ensuring compliance with building regulations.
€1m has being made available to 161 childcare settings to help provide outdoor space to play.
Funding is also being provided to improve accessibility of services for children with disabilities.
Ms Fitzgerald said: "This year's funding will help to ensure that we continue to improve the quality of early childhood care and education which is of such benefit to our youngest children.
"This capital programme represents my commitment, and that of Government, to the ongoing development of the childcare sector."
