Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn has told the Dáil he is not ruling out increasing pupil-teacher ratios.

Minister Quinn said he needs to find €42m in savings from an education budget of €8bn.

The minister said a simple way to achieve the cuts was through an increase in the pupil-teacher ratios.

However, he said no decision has been made and the department budget for 2014 has not been finalised.
