Almost 40 people, including children, have been rescued after being stranded on a theme park ride in England.

Emergency services were called to Chessington World of Adventures in Surrey where 39 people were stuck on the Rameses Revenge ride.

They were left suspended over six meters in the air after the ride developed a fault.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said many of those trapped were "agitated and stressed."

"We cut people out of their restraints, before walking them down the ride and helping them down a ladder to ground level.

"No injuries have been reported though a few people were understandably a bit uncomfortable as they were stuck for some time," the spokesman added.
