Gardai are questioning a 36-year-old man after drugs worth an estimated €1.7m were seized in Dublin.

The cannabis herb and ecstasy were found during the search of a house on The Strand, in Donabate.

Gardai believe the drugs belonged to a north city criminal gang and were destined for the Dublin market.

During the raid 100,000 ecstasy tablets were discovered with an estimated street value of over €1m

Officers also found €700,000 worth of cannabis herb.

A 36-year-old man arrested at the scene is still being detained at Mountjoy garda station.

He can be questioned for up to a week.

In a separate operation by the same drugs unit, four Polish men were arrested after a cannabis grow house was discovered and €350,000 worth of the drug seized.

The four men have since been released and a file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
