Heavy rain has disrupted public transport in Northern Ireland and forced the cancellation of a major motorcycle race event.

Some train passengers were bused between Ballymoney and Coleraine close to the North Coast due to flooding, public transport provider Translink said.

Over 20mm of water fell in Coleraine during torrential downpours which forced the cancellation on safety grounds of the North West 200.

Stormont First Minister Peter Robinson has promised to do all he can to make the running of the event more flexible next year.

Police advised motorists to exercise caution amid adverse conditions in many parts of Northern Ireland.
