The PSNI has made safe what is believed to be a bomb discovered in an area of west Belfast where shots were fired at officers on Thursday afternoon.

The device was found in the Foxes Glen area during follow-up searches related to the gun attack.

Residents who had been evacuated have been allowed to return to their homes.

Up to six shots were fired after police were lured to a bogus burglary. The gun attack is being treated as attempted murder.

A 26-year-old man arrested on Thursday night has been released without charge.
