Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of James Cahillane in Co Kerry last year.

Mr Cahillane's body was found after a fire at his Beaufort home in April 2012.

A post-mortem examination found that he had suffered injuries consistent with an assault.

A man in his late 20s and a woman in her 50s were arrested in Killorglin as part of the investigation into the death.

They are being held at Tralee and Killarney garda stations.

Mr Cahillane was seen in Killorglin on the evening of 18 April 2012.

He finished work at about 5.30pm, did some grocery shopping and withdrew some cash from an ATM.

During the evening, he visited Sheehan's and Clifford's pubs in the town, before taking a taxi to his home at around 10.50pm.

Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw or spoke with Mr Cahillane, or noticed anything suspicious around his home between 5.30pm on 18 April and 2am on 19 April 2012 to contact them.
