Gardaí are questioning a man about the theft of a number of paintings and other items belonging to the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The items were stolen from a private storage facility in Limerick.
The investigation into the theft of the items, believed to be worth €500,000, is being led by gardaí from Naas, along with detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation
The Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht said it has removed all other items belonging to it at the storage facility, and transferred them to other facilities.
It has undertaken an audit and physical check of all artwork, furniture and other items kept in storage.
A report is being prepared for Minister Jimmy Deenihan on the investigation, and a review is being undertaken of the protocols and procedures in place for the storage of these items.
