Market research presented to a Dáil committee shows that 71% of people would favour a "presumed consent" approach towards organ donation.

The Dáil's Health Committee is looking at how to increase organ donation rates.

Today the committee heard from Shane Finnegan, whose own kidney transplant in October from his friend Joe Brolly failed.

Mr Finnegan told the committee he was confident even more people would approve of a so-called "soft opt out" on organ donation with investment in public awareness.
