Investigations are being carried out in Waterford after two separate fires broke out over the weekend.

One fire broke out at an Eddie Rockets diner located on the N25 Waterford to Cork Road at 2am on Saturday.

Six units of the Waterford City Fire Service, along with units from Tramore and Dunmore East.

The fire was brought under control and nobody was injured.

The scene was cordoned off pending technical examination of the gutted diner and this has now been completed.

Gardaí are saying they are following a definite line of inquiry into the cause of the blaze.

Separately, a fire broke out at Briot Avenue in Waterford city at about 1am this morning.

The house was described locally as "a student house".

The house was unoccupied when it went on fire.
