Gardaí in Louth have recovered parts for a pipe bomb, a gun, ammunition and €45,000 worth of drugs in a search of a derelict house.

In an operation involving gardaí from Dundalk and Ardee, two steel pipes, two improvised explosive devices containing a power source and a magnet, allowing for a pipe-bomb to be attached to a vehicle, were recovered.

The Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene but no explosive substance was found.

Gardaí also confirmed that they found a single-barrel sawn-off shotgun, cartridges and what they believe to be heroin with an estimated street value of €45,000.

All were located in a derelict house in Kilsaran, near the M1 motorway.

All items have been removed for technical examination.
