A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in Co Louth.

The victim, aged in his 40s, was attacked on Patrick Street in Dundalk at around 6.30pm.

It is believed the incident was carried out by a number of youths.

After they fled the scene, the man made his way to a nearby pub to raise the alarm.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with wounds to his face, neck and arm.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who was in the Patrick Street area between 6.15pm and 6.45pm to contact them.
