US Vice President Joe Biden is expected to travel to Ireland later this year.

His visit was announced by Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Washington, following a breakfast meeting with Mr Biden.

No date has been released for the visit.

The Taoiseach expressed the hope that Mr Biden would have time to play a game of golf during his time in Ireland.

Earlier, Mr Kenny reiterated the standing invitation to President Barack Obama to return to Ireland during his second term.

Mr Obama made no comment but the Taoiseach said he had reaffirmed his intention of coming back.
