A new multi-denominational primary school will open in Dublin city in September.

The Department of Education has sanctioned the new school in the Dublin 8 area.

Educate Together, which will run the school, has welcomed the development.

It says demand for Educate Together places has been particularly acute in the city and existing schools are heavily oversubscribed.

The site of the new school is still uncertain.

Department of Education efforts to secure a building from a trust that controls Christian Brothers schools are ongoing.
