The Court of Criminal Appeal has overturned the country's first cold case murder conviction.
The presiding judge said the court would quash the conviction and direct a retrial of Vera McGrath.
She was jailed for life in July 2010 having been found guilty of the murder of her husband, Bernard Brian McGrath, 23 years after he was killed in Co Westmeath.
She had denied the charge.
