Four men arrested following the shooting of Peter Butterly in Gormanston on Wednesday have had their periods of detention extended.
Judge William Hamill granted the 24 hour extension after the request from Garda Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken at Drogheda District Court this afternoon.
A man in his 30s who was also arrested after the shooting has been released.
A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr Butterly, from Dunleer, who was known to gardaí for his involvement in dissident republican activities, was shot a number of times in the car park of the Huntsman Inn.
The attackers fled the scene in a car which was intercepted by gardaí on the Balscadden Road a short time later.
Four men were arrested and a handgun was recovered.
A fifth man was arrested near the scene a short time later.
