The body of a woman found in a burnt-out car in Co Louth last night has been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for a post mortem examination.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Kahlid Jabbar is due to conduct the post mortem on her remains tomorrow.

Gardaí say the results of that will dictate how their investigation proceeds.

However, it is understood at this stage the woman’s death is being treated as a personal tragedy.

The alarm was raised shortly after 7pm last night when a passerby saw a Nissan Micra car with its windows fogged up.

The car burst into flames a few minutes later.
