A software company in Carlow Town called Unum is to create 40 software specialist positions.

Unum is a US software company that provides financial protection benefits in the workplace such as disability, life, accident and critical illness insurance.

The move will bring the site's headcount to 112.

The company has offices across the US, the UK, as well as the Carlow operation which provides software support to the wider organisation which employs 10,000 people worldwide.

The Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government Phil Hogan said: "It is very encouraging to see a company such as Unum taking on new people with high skills."

He said: "Unum now is one of Carlow's premier employers and I wish them continued success in the coming years."

Unum Ireland's Managing Director Oliver McKenna said: "This decision to expand employment in our Carlow operation is an endorsement of the work that has been done here over the last five years and of the confidence that the team has earned with our colleagues in the US and UK."
