The Garda Commissioner has said gardaí are investigating the story surrounding businessman Kevin McGeever, who was found on the road between Swalinbar and Ballinamore in Co Leitrim last week.

He is currently being treated in Mullingar Hospital.

He had been missing since May of last year, and claims to have been kidnapped from his home in Craughwell, Co Galway and held against his will.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said today the investigation was a work in progress, it was "early days" and gardaí were teasing out all of the aspects of the case.

He said they were listening to Mr McGeever and anyone else with information.

Mr McGeever's brother Brendan said today Kevin was held captive in a dark room, and has life was threatened on several occasions.

Speaking to RTÉ's The John Murray Show this morning, Brendan McGeever said his brother had been physically abused by his captors, who had not spoken to him during his incarceration.

"He didn't see any of them, their faces were covered, he could just see their eyes," he said.
