British department store group John Lewis has withdrawn a planning application for a major development at Sprucefield near Lisburn in Co Antrim.

The move follows a decision by the Stormont Environment Minister Alex Atwood to limit developments at the site to “bulky goods” only.

The planned €175m development by John Lewis would have included a department store and 19 new shops.
