A 34-year-old woman has died following a collision on the N2 in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

Two cars collided at Tullyvaragh Lower on the main Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road at 5pm on Friday evening.

The female driver was fatally injured in the incident while the car’s three passengers - an eight-year-old boy, a five-year-old girl and a 62-year-old woman - also sustained injuries, though these were not described as serious.

Injuries were also sustained by the sole occupant of the other car involved in the incident. All of those injured were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
