A 29-year-old man accused of causing the deaths of a couple in a road traffic collision in Co Limerick in July 2009 has been found guilty by a jury at the Circuit Court in Limerick.

Michael Harty, of St Mary's Terrace, Askeaton, had denied the charge of dangerous driving causing the deaths of 61-year-old Maurice Hartnett and his 59-year-old wife Margaret at Ardtomin, Askeaton on 29 July 2009.

His trial had heard he was driving on the wrong side of the road when the accident occurred, and that he was almost two times over the legal alcohol limit at the time.

He will be sentenced at Limerick Circuit Court next Wednesday.
