Cork city gardaí to hold public meetings over station closuresWednesday 23 January 2013 16.39
Gardaí in Cork are to hold a number of public meetings following the announcement that four stations are to close in Cork city.
McCurtain Street, Mallow Road and Rathduff stations will shut at the end of this month.
Barrack Street station will close shortly afterwards.
Cork City Division Chief Superintendent Michael Finn stressed the closures will not affect policing in the city centre.
There are 100 garda stations around the country earmarked for closure within the next six months as part of the An Garda Siochána Policing Plan 2013.
All the properties, including the Barrack Street station, which is in the grounds of the historic Elizabeth Fort overlooking the city, will revert to the Office of Public Works.
The public meetings will be held at Grenagh Community Hall, University College Cork and at Blackpool Shopping Centre.
