A number of staff are staging a sit-in at a Co Meath hotel after they were told that it was shutting until further notice.

The Old Darnley Lodge is in the centre of Athboy and employs around 15 full-time and around 30 part-time and casual staff.

Last night they were told the hotel is closing and being handed back to the receiver.

Staff are due to meet with the receiver this morning for discussions on their and the hotel's future.

A spokesperson said they were surprised and shocked at what has happened.
