A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following a knife attack in Co Antrim.

John Lamont, 64, was found dead and his wife Liz, 58, was taken to hospital with stab wounds following the incident at a house in the Carnvale area of Ballymena.

She is said to be in a stable condition.

Police were alerted at about 3am and found Mr Lamont's body inside the house and his injured wife nearby.

The young man is in custody assisting police with their inquiries and a knife has been taken away for forensic examination.
