A 19-year-old man has been arrested after an 18-year-old man was shot and seriously injured in Memorial Park, Dublin.

The 18-year-old from Ballyfermot was shot in the head and neck at a footbridge in Memorial Park in Dublin 8 at around 3pm.

He was taken to St James's Hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses that may have seen anything unusual or suspicious near the footbridge on the Con Colbert Road side of Memorial Park at approximately 3pm.

Witnesses are asked to contact Kilmainham Garda Station on 01-6669700, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

The 19-year-old suspect is being held at Kilmainham Garda Station.
