Gardaí in Waterford are investigating an incident in which a man was assaulted at his home in the city last night.
The man, who is in his 50s, answered a knock to his front door in Avondale shortly after 7.30pm.
Two men wearing balaclavas and armed with what appeared to be a handgun approached him and demanded money.
They then punched the man to the ground and repeatedly kicked him. The injured man was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment.
Gardaí say no money was taken in the incident and the man's injuries are not life threatening.
They have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
