Gardaí are investigating a road collision in Kildare yesterday in which a 59-year-old council worker was killed.

He was working at road works at Graiguesallagh in Maynooth at about 3pm when he was hit by a car.

He was taken to Naas General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out by garda forensic collision investigators.

The Health and Safety Authority has been informed.
