7.5 magnitude earthquake strikes off Alaska

An earthquake of 7.5 magnitude has struck in the Pacific Ocean about 100km southwest of Port Alexander in Alaska.

The quake occurred at a depth of about 10km, according to the US Geological Survey, which downgraded the magnitude from an initial 7.7.

A tsunami warning that was issued was later cancelled.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck British Columbia on 27 October. A tsunami warning was issued but no damage ensued.
