The first baby born in the Republic in 2013 was at the Mid-Western Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick.

Baby Leo was born at 12.01am. His parents, Carmel McNamara and Charles Maples, are from Co Clare.

The second baby of 2013 was born at Cork University Hospital to Christine Casey and Ciaran Hodnett from Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.

Baby Lexi, weighing 7lb 6oz, was born at 12.03am.

The first baby born in Dublin was at Holles Street where the baby girl arrived at 12.17am.

The Rotunda Hospital in Dublin said its first arrival, also a baby girl, was born at 12.48am.

The Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital said the first baby arrived there at around 2am.

Baby Jack Houlihan was born at Kerry General Hospital at 12.29am, to Dermot and Kathleen Houlihan.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda had a particularly busy night, with five babies born between 4am and 10am.
