Three men have been arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of a police officer after a bomb was placed under his car in east Belfast on Sunday.

Two men, aged 34 and 25, were detained in Belfast yesterday.

A 41-year-old man was arrested in the west of the city today.

The officer was about to take his wife and two children out for lunch when he checked underneath his car, parked in the driveway of his home, and discovered a viable explosive device.

The PSNI said the bomb was clearly intended to kill the police officer, but could have also killed his family.

Dissident republicans are being blamed.
