Gardaí in Cork have appealed for witnesses to an assault after a 36-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries.

The incident happened between 12.30am and 1.45am this morning at the junction of Lavitt's Quay and St Patrick's Bridge in Cork City.

The injured man was brought to Cork University Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardaí believe that the incident involved both males and females who left the scene in the direction of Bridge Street.
