A man in his 50s has died after being struck by two cars near Dublin city centre in the early hours of this morning.

The man was seriously injured in the incident at Parnell Square West near the junction with Parnell Street at around 12.15am.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The drivers of both cars were not injured.

The road was closed for a time for a technical examination but has since re-opened.
