A 45-year-old man has died and two other men have been seriously injured in a road accident in Co Longford.

The three-vehicle collision occurred on the N5 between Longford and Tarmonbarry at around 5pm.

The two injured men, aged in their 20s and 40s, were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

Elsewhere, a man in his 80s died after being struck by a truck when walking on the Drogheda Road in Slane, Co Meath this afternoon.

He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead.
