Around 1,500 people have taken part in a night-time protest in Waterford City as part of an on going campaign to maintain and retain services at Waterford Regional Hospital.

The candle lit protest took place in the grounds of the hospital, and was supported by the South East Hospital Action Alliance.

Protesters are worried that a report on the re-alignment of hospital services will recommend changes leading to the downgrading of Waterford Regional Hospital.

Organisers say that over 2,000 people attended the rally.
