Four appear at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court

Four people have appeared before the Special Criminal Court this evening charged with possessing handguns and ammunition.

Three men and one woman were arrested as part of an investigation into dissident republicans near Tullamore in Co Offaly two days ago.

Ursula Shannon, 28 from Inglewood Crescent, Clonsilla, Colin Brady, 23, of Baskin Lane, Kinsealy, John Troy, 33, of Dunard Avenue, Cabra and Johny Mc Greal of Palmer Rd, Rush were charged last Tuesday night.

Mr McGreal and Mr Troy were also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation.

None of the accused made any reply either upon arrest or when the charges were put to them.

Three of the accused appeared before the non-jury court wearing similar dark blue work clothes, while Mr Brady wore a grey tracksuit.

Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler, sitting with Judge Margaret Heneghan and Judge William Hamill, remanded all four accused in custody with liberty to apply for bail to appear in front of the court on 6 December.
