An application by convicted murderer Joe O'Reilly to get free legal aid in order to take a miscarriage of justice case has been granted in the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman granted O'Reilly free legal aid this morning even though he was not represented in court and no counsel presented a case for legal aid on his behalf.
The judge granted the application after a lawyer for the State said there was no objection.
O'Reilly was not present in court.
He is serving a life sentence for killing his wife Rachel at their home in Naul, Co Dublin in October 2004.
The 30-year-old mother of two was beaten to death. O'Reilly was convicted in 2007 and sentenced to life imprisonment.
He lost an appeal against his conviction in 2009, but maintains his innocence.
He is now seeking to have his case declared a miscarriage of justice.
