Police in Western Australia have charged a taxi driver in connection with an incident in Perth in which a 25-year-old Irishman was killed.

Ryan Doyle was from Leitrim near Castlewellan in Co Down.

Police said they were called to reports of a man lying on a road in the suburb of Belmont in the early hours of yesterday.

Mr Doyle was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said Mr Doyle had been a passenger in a taxi and they believe he died after falling from the vehicle.

It is understood he had been involved in a dispute with the driver about a fare.

The taxi driver has been charged with a number of offences, including dangerous driving causing death.

He is due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court next month.
