A former adviser to the DUP MP David Simpson has been arrested after a camera was found in the toilets of his constituency office in Portadown Co Armagh.

David McConaghie, 47, who is also a member of Ian Paisley’s Free Presbyetrian Church, was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr McConaghie's solicitor said his client had not been charged with any criminal offence.

Mr Simpson said he no longer employs Mr McConaghie.

Mr Simpson, who is the DUP MP for Upper Bann said: " The police are currently investigating issues pertaining to an individual brought to their attention by myself. I no longer employ this individual and he does not hold any office in the party."

He contacted the PSNI when a camera was found inside a toilet cubicle at the MP's office in Portadown.
