Third-level students based in Galway and the midlands this afternoon gathered in Eyre Square to protest over college fee increases.

Around1,000 students gathered in Eyre Square ahead of the march.

They were joined by students from GMIT and Athlone Institute of Technology.

Over 500 students left the square carrying a coffin to the constituency office of Labour TD Derek Nolan on the Dock Road.

There is a small garda presence and traffic has been disrupted.

Students in Cork took to the streets earlier this month in a similar rally.
