Former workers at a window manufacturing company in Co Cork are continuing a sit-in at the plant.

Staff at Hele Windows in Midleton were told last Thursday that the company was closing after 42 years with immediate effect and to clear the factory.

The employees said they want to try to save their jobs and help out customers who have been affected by the closure.

It is estimated that up to 110 orders, where deposits have been taken, are incomplete or outstanding.

Salesman Pat Wickham said that customers and suppliers have been left out of pocket but there is a lot of goodwill towards the Hele name and they are working on a plan to try and save the business.

An application to the High Court in Dublin is expected to be made tomorrow to have a liquidator appointed to the company.

Hele Windows was founded in 1970 and was Ireland's first PVC window manufacturer.
